Installing the AFP2PDF Plus Transform using the graphic user interface

The AFP2PDF Plus installer is available in two versions based on your Java environment:

Installer file Java version
RTS--setupafp2pdfplus-1.X.X--afp2pdfplus_Java8.jar Java 8
RTS--setupafp2pdfplus-1.X.X--afp2pdfplus_Java11.jar Java 11 and later
where 1.X.X represents the transform version number.

To start the installer program, perform these steps:

  1. Use the following command: java -jar RTS--setupafp2pdfplus-1.X.X--afp2pdfplus_Javan.jar, where 1.X.X is the transform version and n is the Java version..

Note: On some Java versions, due to a bug, the above java -jar command might not start the installer. Use this additional parameter: java -Djdk.util.zip.disableZip64ExtraFieldValidation=true -jar RTS--setupafp2pdfplus-1.X.X--afp2pdfplus_Javan.jar

Depending on the capabilities of your operating system, the AFP2PDF Plus transform opens either using a graphical user interface or a command line.
  2. On the Welcome screen, click Next to continue the installation process of the transform.

      Note:
    • To stop the installation process of the transform, click Cancel.

  3. In the License Agreement dialog box:
    1. Read the license agreement.
    2. Click I accept the terms of the license agreement.
    3. Click Next.

      Note:
    • If you do not accept the terms of the license agreement, you cannot continue the installation.

  4. Check the prerequisites list.
      Note:
    • This step applies only when you install the transform on a UNIX based operating system.
  5. Choose the installation type dialog box.

    New Install
    1. Select New Install for a clean installation of the transform.
    2. Click Next to continue the installation process and browse the destination folder for the installation of the transform.
    3. If the product is already installed in the selected folder, choose another destination folder.
    Upgrade
    1. Select Upgrade to upgrade to the latest version of the transform.
    2. Click Next to continue the installation process and browse the path for the update of the transform.
    3. If the product is not installed in the selected folder, choose another destination folder.

      Note:
    • If you select the Upgrade option, you install AFP2PDF Plus in a directory where a previous transform exists. During an upgrade, the configuration files are not modified, only the binaries are updated.
    • You can install the AFP2PDF Plus service as an additional option. The AFP2PDF Plus service is supported on Windows, AIX, and Linux operating systems. When installed, this service starts the AFP2PDF server at boot time and can be managed with the standard service tools and commands specific to each operating system. To install the service, you must have root or administrator privileges.
      • On Windows, the AFP2PDF Plus installer looks for a Java installation based on the PATH environment variable and uses that installation as a startup point for the service. The service continues to work as long as the path for the Java installation does not change.
      • On Linux, the AFP2PDF Plus service requires the system service manager.
      • When the installer upgrades a previous installation of AFP2PDF Plus where the service option was enabled, the new installation overrides the service. The old service might still be active until a machine reboot or a restart of the service manager.
    • When you perform a fresh installation of the AFP2PDF Plus transform you can specify the default font handling behavior. These are the two options:
      1. Fonts are mapped by default. This option ensures smaller output PDF files size. However, the AFP files that contain fonts that do not have a font mapping will not be displayed correctly.
      2. Fonts are processed and embedded in the resulting PDF files. By using this option, the output PDF files will look more like the input AFP files.
    • On non-Windows operating environments the installer uses the /tmp directory to unpack files and run certain scripts. If there are limitations on the /tmp folder of the system, such as non-exec flag or limited space, a different temporary file directory can be specified using the -Dlax.nl.env.iatempdir= parameter. Example: java -Dlax.nl.env.iatempdir=/custom_temp_dir/ -jar RTS--setupafp2pdfplus-1.X.X--afp2pdfplus_Javan.jar, where 1.X.X is the transform version and n is the Java version.
  6. The pre-installation summary panel appears just before the installation can begin. This shows what you have chosen to install and the location.
To complete the installation process, click Install.

The installing dialog is displayed to show the installation status.

  7. Click Done to close the installer.

Note: On non-Windows operating environments the installer uses the /tmp directory to unpack files and run certain scripts. If there are limitations on the /tmp folder of the system, such as non-exec flag or limited space, a different temporary file directory can be specified using the -Dlax.nl.env.iatempdir= parameter.
