Mapping fonts specified as coded fonts

Configure a font mapping for a coded font by specifying its character set and code page components.

Make sure you have added an AFP file to your project.

Coded fonts are listed under the Coded fonts section in the DOCUMENT AFP FONTS panel. Each entry shows the font name and size in points. To create a mapping, you specify the character set and code page that the coded font represents, then select a target font for PDF output.

  1. Select Project ⇒ Add AFP to add the AFP file that contains the font you want to map.
  2. In the DOCUMENT AFP FONTS panel, under Coded fonts, select the font you want to map.
The Mapping Options panel displays the font name, size, and "Coded fonts" label in the header. The preview panel highlights text that uses this font.
  3. Make sure Enable mapping is selected.
When this option is cleared, the font mapping is disabled and the font uses default conversion behavior.
  4. In the Character set list, select or type the character set name for this coded font.
Character set names typically start with C0, C1, or CZ (for example, C0S0LB12, C0GT12).
  5. In the Code page list, select or type the code page name.
Code page names typically start with T1 (for example, T1V10037, T1V10281).
  6. In the Encoding type list, select the character encoding size.
    • Single byte. For Western languages and standard code pages
    • Double byte. For Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
  7. In the Encoding classification list, select the encoding standard.
For single byte encoding, select ANSI, Symbol, KSC, or KYUJIS. For double byte encoding, select the appropriate Asian encoding: SHINJIS, KYUJIS, KSC, BIG5, GB, PC_MIXED, or IDENTITY.
  8. Optional: In the Code page ID list, select a specific code page identifier if needed.
Common values include 37 (EBCDIC US/Canada), 500 (EBCDIC International), 1252 (Windows Latin 1), and 850 (DOS Latin 1).
  9. Optional: In the Font size field, adjust the target font size if needed. The value is expressed in points.
Increase or decrease this value to scale the target font relative to the original AFP font size.
  10. In the Target font type list, select the category of font to use for the mapping.
    • Base 14. Standard PDF fonts (Courier, Helvetica, Times New Roman)
    • CJK.Asian language fonts
    • Modified Base 14. Fonts with different metrics (AvantGarde, Bookman, etc.)
    • Sonoran. IBM Sonoran font emulation
    • External Type 1. Adobe Type 1 fonts from your font folder
    • External TrueType. TrueType/OpenType fonts from your font folder
  11. In the Target font list, select the specific font to use.
The available fonts depend on the target font type you selected. For Base 14, options include Courier, Helvetica, and Times New Roman.
  12. Optional: Select Bold or Italic to apply font styles.
These options are not available for Sonoran fonts.

The coded font mapping is configured. The preview panel updates to show the document with the new font mapping applied. The mapping is stored in the configuration files when you export the project.
